San Juan Connections: An Invitation to Participate

Many months ago, Jodi Laws Cochran, perhaps noting that I had gone to bed before midnight, suggested that with my extra time, I should take on another project. The idea was that I should rally county citizens, (both those living here, and those who have migrated all over the world) and put together a collection of interesting encounters.  If you've ever traveled anywhere, I'm sure you'd had such experiences.  Here's how they play out:
  • Step 1:  When visiting in some strange place, you introduce yourself to someone, adding that you're from San Juan County, Utah.
  • Step 2:  They say, "Oh, I know someone from Blanding; or "That's where my Grandma grew up." or "I used to have a missionary companion from Monticello," etc.
  • Step 3:  You have a lively conversation, and feel an instant connection, and often make a new friend in the process. And, of course, you go back home and report the experience to someone!
  • Sometimes you just run into someone you know well, in the strangest place, never expecting someone from your hometown to even be in the country, city, or state you are visiting!
Such experiences, are the intended focus of this blog.  Send in as many experiences as you remember, as often as you wish.  Include the dates and who, what, and where's of each encounter. You can message them to me on Facebook or post in the blog comments, or e-mail your experience to me (42janetkw@gmail.com . Please include photos if you have them.
