- Step 1: When visiting in some strange place, you introduce yourself to someone, adding that you're from San Juan County, Utah.
- Step 2: They say, "Oh, I know someone from Blanding; or "That's where my Grandma grew up." or "I used to have a missionary companion from Monticello," etc.
- Step 3: You have a lively conversation, and feel an instant connection, and often make a new friend in the process. And, of course, you go back home and report the experience to someone!
- Sometimes you just run into someone you know well, in the strangest place, never expecting someone from your hometown to even be in the country, city, or state you are visiting!
San Juan's #1 exports are their high school graduates. The scarcity of local jobs takes them all over the world, where they share their work ethic, skills and knowledge. This blog seeks to share those surprising, serendipity encounters, when you meet someone from San Juan in unexpected places, or they know someone from there.

San Juan Connections: An Invitation to Participate
Many months ago, Jodi Laws Cochran, perhaps noting that I had gone to bed before midnight, suggested that with my extra time, I should take on another project. The idea was that I should rally county citizens, (both those living here, and those who have migrated all over the world) and put together a collection of interesting encounters. If you've ever traveled anywhere, I'm sure you'd had such experiences. Here's how they play out:
